THE SANCTUARY AT TIDBINBILLA

Nestled between the Tidbinbilla and Gibralter mountain ranges, on the outskirts of ACT, The Sanctuary at Tidnibilla Nature Reserve provides a bush walking trail and captive wildlife experience for visitors and facilities for the research community.

Working closely with landscape architects Taylor Cullity Lethlean and writer David Handcocks, DLD was instrumental in developing the interpretive masterplan with a view to integrating information into the landscape and making it an engaging and seamless experience for the visitor.

The theme of ‘interdependency’ was the impetus for developing all interpretive signage and experiential nodes throughout The Sanctuary. Visitors were provided with the opportunity to discover information at significant points along the trail.

The interpretive exhibition was punctuated with significant sculptural elements along the trail interpreting statements such as ‘This fence helps protect The Sanctuary’s native wildlife’ and ‘everything we use is mined or grown’.

Consideration was given to the palette of materials, chosen for their longevity and aesthetic values and overall integration into the landscape.
