2012 marks the reinvention of the Premier’s Design Awards, ensuring better recognition for Victoria’s design professionals and reflecting a stronger commitment from the Victorian Government to building Victoria’s design excellence.
The renewed awards program called for a new brand and trade mark, which DLD has developed. The icon recalls Victoria’s heritage (stemming from the floral and faunal emblems) and symbolises design excellence and distinction.
The studio also designed the winner and finalists’ certificates handed out on the Awards night, as well as a broadsheet publication, which introduced the new awards program and documented the works of the winner and finalists.
The new branding was unveilved at the official Awards event on 19 September 2012, along with the announcement of the 13 finalists and winner, the Edithvale Seaford Wetlands Discovery Centre.
The Awards highlight both designers and firms for excellence in the development and use of design and the economic, environmental and social benefits of good design. Ken Cato chaired an international and interstate judging panel, comprising of design leaders in the fields of product, graphic, service, interior, landscape and industrial design.
