INDIGO | ICOGRADA

David recently stepped down from a two-year position on the Board of Icograda (the International Council of Graphic Design Associations) to work on a range of projects of cultural value (INDIGO).

Icograda is the world body for professional communication design. A member-based network, the organisation promotes the value of design practice, thinking, education, research and policy.

During his time on the Board, David worked on developing two projects – Indigo and Mother Tongue.

Indigo is an online platform for collaboration and discussion, connecting designers around the world with the aim of understanding the notion of indigenous design. As Chair of the Indigo Advisory Group, David was involved in programme development and working to create new initiatives for the overall project.

Mother Tongue is a cross-cultural platform to open discussion around the role of contemporary indigenous design and to encourage collaborative projects that deepen our understanding of people’s culture in our visual world of this 21st Century.

“We need a culture shift. Can design reconcile differences? Let’s begin a journey of understanding – fostering a new respect for life, nature and the natural world. Let’s value the principles of truth, honesty, generosity, equity and kinship.”
